Kerry jersey twins spotted at Spain v Italy Euro 2020 match open up on becoming overnight viral sensations

Irish twins who became overnight viral sensations after they appeared on screen wearing Kerry jerseys during Tuesday night’s footie match are hoping to bag themselves tickets to the final on Sunday.

Niall O’Connor and his twin brother Seamus, from Brosna in Co Kerry, couldn’t believe their luck when a pal offered them last-minute tickets to Spain vs Italy at Wembley.

The pair were spotted celebrating wildly in the Italy end of the stadium.

And they were quickly identified on Twitter after Irish sports fans spotted them in the crowd wearing their Kerry jerseys.

Niall, who works in IT for Sainsbury's, told us it was “mayhem”.

He said: “We didn’t get the tickets until really late the night before, like quarter to 12 or 12 o’clock so we didn’t know we were going.

“We were going in and there was a whole bunch of the Spanish fans and a whole bunch of the Italian fans and to be honest, the Italian ones were just better craic.

“It turned out there were loads of Italians in our area.

“We’re big soccer fans, we play for a team over here, St James. We didn’t have anything else planned.”

But the twins didn’t realise the stir they were causing on Twitter until a fellow Irishman came over in the stadium and told them.

The soccer fan dressed in the Opel jersey was from Castlebar in Mayo.

His father told him to find the “two Kerry lads” beside the goalposts and it will get himself on camera.

Niall said: “That fella is from Mayo. His father sent him a message to go over behind the goals and find the two Kerry lads and he’ll make it on TV. That’s how he ended up there. I don’t know who he is. He’s a fella from Mayo from Castlebar.

“He was the other side of the stadium. He came the whole way across.

“When he rocked on telling us. It was literally at that point (that we knew about being on Twitter”. The phone signal isn’t great inside the stadium, so we didn’t know but when that fella rocked over to tell us his father messaged him,” he said laughing.

Niall and Seamus live just 25 minutes away from the stadium and are hoping their luck doesn’t run out and they will get to the final this Sunday.

“It depends if we get tickets or not, I’d say it might be difficult. That’s the only thing but if we did, we would. We only live 25 minutes away.

“It was amazing. It was absolutely mayhem over there,” he added.
