Kerry All-Ireland football winner Pat Griffin passes away age 75

Two-time All-Ireland football championship winner and former Kerry GAA forward Pat Griffin has passed away at the age of 75.

The Glenbeigh-Glencar club man played in five All-Ireland finals during his career before retiring in 1972.

He died peacefully in Cork University Hospital last night.

Glenbeigh-Glencar GAA wrote on Twitter: “The best footballer of his generation Pat Griffin has sadly passed away.

“Pat was one of the best players to ever wear the red & black of Glenbeigh/Glencar. May he rest in peace.”

During a decade-long career with the Kingdom, Griffin won the 1969 championship in a final against Offaly and 1970 against Meath.

He also captained the Kerry team that lost the All-Ireland final to Down in 1968 before winning back-to-back titles the next two years.

Off the pitch, Griffin worked as a Garda, and when stationed in Cork for his job, he moved club as well and joined Clonakilty GAA.
