KERB to offer discounted street food for those who bring reusable containers

With the Extinction Rebellion still in full swing, it seems everyone is thinking about ditching the plastic and going greener, and the street food giants at KERB are jumping on board too.

Launching on April 26, KERB will be rolling out a new lunchtime offer giving customers money off food if they bring along a reusable container to eat from.

The scheme will give a 50p discount on dishes across all five of the KERB markets, which can be found at King’s Cross, Paddington, West India Quay, St Katherine’s Docks and next to the Gherkin.

Participating traders will display an “opted in” disc on their stalls, and presently more than 50 vendors are taking part.

The scheme, Pact Lunch, is set to be a permanent initiative as the street market looks to reduce packaging by around 10 per cent and stop one-time-use boxes and plates being discarded.

KERB has estimated the new project will save around 150,000 pieces of packaging a year. Petra Barran, founder of KERB said: “The takeaway and on-the-go dining industry is known for generating a lot of packaging waste, and whilst we’ve been compostable for six years, we felt it was time to make a bigger gesture to cut down on waste at our KERB markets.

“We trialled Pact Lunch at KERB King’s Cross and the response was incredible, so now we’re rolling out across all five markets and making it a permanent incentive.

“Everyone owns their own container or leftover takeaway boxes so there really is no excuse to join the Pact and help us get one step closer to a greener planet.”
