KOTTAYAM: A youth was hacked to death in a rubber plantation in broad daylight and his foot was chopped off and left in the nearby junction by the accused in Karukachal on Thursday. The deceased has been identified as Manesh Thamban, 32, a Mundathanam native.
A few hours later, two people — Sachu Chandran, 23, a Kumarakom native and Jayesh, 30, a Kadayinikkad native — surrendered before Manimala police with a blood stained knife. Police said rivalry between mafia gangs associated with ganja had led to the murder.
The incident took place in Edayappara in Kangazha. Manesh and Jayesh were rivals. The gang came in a car and chased Manesh who was sitting outside his house. Manesh ran into the rubber plantation where he was hacked to death. The foot was then chopped off and was kept on public display.
