Kerala: Village officer held in Pathanamthitta for taking Rs 3,000 bribe

KOTTAYAM: Vigilance wing of police arrested Omalloor village officer in Pathanamthitta district for accepting a bribe of Rs 3,000 on Thursday. Santhosh Kumar, 52, a Muvattupuzha native, was arrested.

According to police, Kumar demanded Rs 5,000 from a person for completing the ‘Pokkuvaravu’ process. The person has been visiting the office for months to get this work done. He initially paid Rs 500, and on Thursday, he paid Rs 3,000.

He had informed the vigilance wing about this before giving the money to Kumar. He got his papers ready as soon as the bribe was given, and after he left office, police arrested Kumar, who was carrying the money in his pocket.

According to police, Kumar admitted to accepting the bribe. They also said that there have been lots of complaints against the officer. Kumar will be produced before the vigilance court.
