Kerala: ‘Vaccination centres to be set up in schools’

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Steps would be taken to strengthen the vaccination among children and for this, vaccination centres will be set up in schools, said education minister V Sivankutty on Saturday.

“The government is focusing on vaccinating all children above 12 years of age. For this, it has been decided to set up centres in the schools itself to provide vaccination. If centres cannot be allowed in all schools, at least one centre for two or three schools will be planned,” he said.

“The data of students who have not taken vaccination will be collected from each school. Specific directives regarding this will be given to the school heads,” said the minister.

Presently, only 54% of children aged between 12 and 14 years have taken the first dose vaccination and only 15% the second dose. Among those aged between 15 and 17 years, the first dose has been taken by 83% of children and the second dose by 55% of children in the state.
