Kerala: Vaccination begins for kids of 12-14 years

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The vaccination for children aged between 12 and 14 years began on pilot basis in the state. The vaccination facilities were arranged in select hospitals of the state.

However, the state health department has decided to extend the vaccination programme extensively only after having discussions with the education department. Since the students of most schools are having examinations, it has been decided to commence the extensive vaccination programme only after the exams.

For this the health and education departments will jointly bring out a detailed guideline. The education department has been asked to explore the possibility of providing schools as vaccination centres for this.

Even though those born in 2010 can register for the vaccination, the state health department has informed that only those who have completed 12 years on the vaccination date will be allowed to take the jabs.
