Kerala unveils Covid-19 leave policy for all staff

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The government has issued orders providing leave policy for government officials if they are affected by Covid-19. According to the order issued on Wednesday, all government officials who have tested Covid-19 positive or are in the primary contact list of Covid-19 positive citizens will be provided casual leave for seven days.

They should report for work on the eighth day if they tested negative on the seventh day. After they report to work, they will have to adhere to strict Covid-19 protocol, including self-observance and maintenance of social distancing. The employees will have to produce a certificate by the health or the local self-government department for availing casual leave.

However, those who are becoming a primary contact of a Covid-19 positive patient need not go into quarantine if he or she has been affected by Covid-19 within the last three months. Such employees should, however, continue to adhere to strict Covid-19 protocol, including self-observance and maintenance of social distancing and have to take medical assistance if signs of infection are shown.

Those employees who have to be hospitalized because of infection will be sanctioned casual leave for the full period of hospitalization. The order has also warned that if anyone has misused the leave provisions, strict action will be initiated against them.
