Kerala: TPR at 16.94%, 20,224 test Covid positive

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state has witnessed 20,224 positive cases of the 1,19,385 samples tested in the last 24 hours. The test positivity rate (TPR) has increased to 16.94%.

Meanwhile, 99 recent deaths were confirmed as caused by Covid, taking the death toll to 19,346. At the same time, 17,142 patients have recovered from the disease.

Among new cases, 19,205 cases have been infected through local transmission. The contact source of infection was not traceable for 785. There are 97 healthcare professionals among those infected, and 137 people have arrived from outside the state.

Thrissur reported the highest number of cases with 2,795, followed by Ernakulam (2,707), Kozhikode (2,705), Malappuram (2,611), Palakkad (1,528), Kollam (1,478), Alappuzha (1,135), Kottayam (1,115), Kannur (1,034), Thiruvananthapuram (835), Pathanamthitta (797), Wayanad (524), Idukki (520) and Kasaragod (440).

So far, 35,84,634 people have recovered from Coronavirus infection, even as 1,82,285 patients are still undergoing treatment. There are 4,91,871 persons presently under observation in various districts, of which 4,64,919 are in home or institutional quarantine centres and 26,952 are in isolation at hospitals.

As per the weekly infection population ratio, 414 wards in the74 local bodies have a WIPR of more than 8%. In these wards, strict lockdown restrictions have been implemented.
