KOCHI: Excise enforcement and anti-narcotics special squad seized 16.5kg of ganja and arrested a youth in this connection from a rented house at Vazhakkala.
Sources said that the arrested person has been identified as Nithin Antony and he used to allegedly peddle the contraband. An accomplice, a man named Antony Rijoy who used to procure the contraband for sale and distribute it among peddlers in Kaloor, Thammanam and Palarivattom, managed to escape.
Officers said that the absconding accused had connections with persons involved in sand mining and that he used to procure the drugs from nearby states.
Meanwhile, city police attached with Thrikkakara and Fort Kochi police stations arrested two persons with 1.5kg of ganja from a hotel at Athani, Kakkanad.
Police raided the place based on information that a Kannur native Mohammed Shiyad, who was accused in a case registered by Fort Kochi police, was at the spot. Shiyad was arrested from one room in the hotel. Two others Mohammed Sabith, 25, and Sidhu S Ravindran, 23, of Anakkavila, Thiruvananthapuram were arrested from another room with the ganja. TNN
