Kerala serial blasts: Border areas being monitored, says Karnataka home minister G Parameshwara

MANGALURU: Even as the NIA has launched a probe into the Sunday blasts at a prayer meeting organised by Jehovah’s Witnesses in Kalamassery in Kerala, home minister G Parameshwara said that bordering areas of Mangaluru are closely being monitored and instructions in this regard have been given to the city police commissioner and IGP Western Range.

During his visit to Mangaluru to inaugurate the new buildings for Bajpe and Mangaluru Rural police stations and the City Armed Reserve (CAR) office building on Sunday, he told reporters, “We are not sure of the forces behind the Kerala blast. Instructions have been given to the police to remain alert.”

When asked about the alert given during Dasara celebrations at Mangaluru, Mysuru and Madikeri, Parameshwara said that the police regularly gather intelligence and necessary action was taken accordingly. “Internally, decisions were taken to ensure that no untoward incidents were reported in Mangaluru, Mysuru and Madikeri Dasara celebrations. In the same manner, everyone will be sensitised,” he said.
