Kerala: Secretaries to finalise plan for school reopening

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The secretaries of health and education departments and the director of general education have been authorised to finalise guidelines for reopening of schools in a staggered manner from November 1.

After a preliminary discussion with general education minister V Sivankutty on Thursday, health minister Veena George said the meeting discussed everything from students reaching the schools till they leave after the classes.

The classes will be held in a bio-bubble model and it will be ensured that teachers, employees and parents are vaccinated. The sero surveillance report will also be considered while framing the guidelines, she said.

‘Govt would take all steps to ensure safety’

Sivankutty said the government would take all necessary steps to ensure the safety of students. Discussions will be held with all stakeholders. There will be online sessions also for students along with offline classes, he said.

Sources said a final decision on whether classes will be held in the morning or afternoon will be taken after further discussions. It has been decided to resume classes for classes I to VII, X and XII on November 1. The remaining classes will reopen on November 15.
