Kerala reports over 13,700 Covid cases

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: With nearly four lakh people remaining under observation and the active cases increasing to 1.21 lakh, there is no respite in the reporting of Covid-19 cases in the state. Six districts have reported over thousand new cases on Friday.

The state reported 13,750 new Covid-19 cases with a test positivity rate of 10.55% whne 1,30,390 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. As many as 130 recent deaths have been confirmed as due to Covid, taking the death toll in the state to 15,155.

At the same time, 10,697 patients have recovered, and presently, there are 1,21,944 persons under treatment in the state. Among the new cases, 12,884 cases have been infected through local transmission. The contact source of infection was not traceable for 725.

Kozhikode reported the highest number of cases — 1,782, followed by Malappuram (1,763), Thrissur (1,558), Ernakulam (1,352), Kollam (1,296), Thiruvananthapuram (1,020), Palakkad (996), Kottayam (800), Alappuzha (750), Kasaragod (726), Kannur (719), Pathanamthitta (372), Wayanad (345) and Idukki (301).

So far, 29,93,242 people have recovered from the infection in the state. A total of 2,50,60,933 samples have been sent for testing till now. There are 3,97,164 persons presently under observation across the state, of which 24,847 are in hospitals.
