KOCHI: Widespread damages were reported from various parts of Ernakulam in the heavy rains accompanied by strong winds on Monday night and Tuesday morning. No casualties were reported. Most of the damages were reported from Paravur taluk. Many houses suffered damages after trees fell on it.
Alangad, Kottuvally and Karumalloor villages reported most of the damages. As per the preliminary report, damages worth Rs 50 lakh were reported from these villages. As many as 40 houses were damaged completely and 102 houses suffered partial damages in Kottuvally village. As many as 122 and 18 houses suffered partial damages in Alangad and Karumalloor villages, respectively.
Kerala State Electricity Board also suffered loss due to damages to electric poles.
Residents in Muvattupuzha taluk faced the fury of rain with damages reported in Enanelloor and Kalloorkkad villages. Two houses got damaged completely and five suffered partial damages in Enanelloor village. In Kalloorkkad village, two houses destroyed and 25 partially damaged. Residents of these houses have sought shelter in their relatives’ houses.
Traffic congestion was reported in some of the roads after trees uprooted on the road. No situation has been aroused to open relief camps in the district.
Meanwhile, disaster management authorities have said that all preparations, as per Orange book, were being readied to meet any emergency situation.
