THRISSUR: A section of doctors at Thrissur Medical College hospital boycotted OP for one hour on Wednesday to protest against the suspension of a doctor in connection with the reported release of an accident victim’s body without conducting autopsy.
Dr P J Jacob, the head of the orthopaedics unit 3, has been suspended, pending enquiry, by joint director Thomas Mathew, in connection with the release of the body of Pattissery Valappil Yusuff (46) of Onnam Kallu near Wadakkanchery.
Yusuff was injured in a bike accident at Kanjirakode on June 8 and breathed his last on the night of June 11 while undergoing treatment at the MCH. The doctor on duty had released his body that night itself without conducting autopsy. The body was later brought back and released again after postmortem on June 12.
Kerala government medical college teachers’ association (KGMCTA) leaders, who had given the protest call, alleged that Dr Jacob had no direct involvement in the incident and only performed his duties as the unit chief. Government is trying to protect the real culprits by victimising Dr Jacob, they alleged. Protesting doctors also took out a demonstration on Wednesday.
