Kerala Police Launch Probe into AI-Generated Video Targeting PM Modi, X Corp Booked

The cyber wing said the 77-second video, flagged by authorities including the ECI, appeared designed to mislead viewers and undermine public confidence in key constitutional institutions during a sensitive election period. Investigators are examining the origin of the clip, how it was amplified, and whether there was coordinated intent behind its dissemination.

Police officials warned that the video had the potential to incite public unrest. They also alleged that X Corp failed to act promptly, despite being requested to remove the content. Takedown notices have been issued, and further steps are being taken to prevent its circulation, in accordance with election regulations.

The case invokes provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita relating to provocation, forgery, and public mischief, as well as identity theft under the Information Technology Act. Authorities issued a public advisory cautioning citizens against sharing unverified or manipulated content during the polls, emphasizing that any attempts to distort the electoral process would attract strict legal action.

International Update: Tensions in the Middle East

Meanwhile, the ongoing US-Israel-Iran conflict has seen heightened tensions. Former US President Donald Trump claimed that Iran is “afraid” to admit it seeks a deal, warning that the country could face internal or external retaliation. Iran, on the other hand, reported shooting down an “F-18” fighter jet over Chabahar, although US fact-checks contradict this claim. Additionally, Iran has threatened attacks on infrastructure, citing reports that “enemies” are allegedly preparing to occupy a strategic island with assistance from a regional power.
