THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In the wake of revelations by Swapna Suresh, former opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala sought a reinvestigation into the gold smuggling case. “It has become evident that the chief minister’s office was involved in getting the baggage cleared from customs,” he said.
Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan cannot remain silent anymore and has to reply to all the allegations levelled by Suresh, said Ramesh. “The chief minister should immediately suspend Sivasankar from service. Whatever the opposition had raised against the involvement of the chief minister’s office in the gold smuggling case, has come true with her revelations,” he said.
“It has also become evident that the certificates produced by Suresh for a job at Space Park were fake and it was known to Sivasankar. This means that she secured a job in the department which comes under the chief minister through illegal means. Now, how can the chief minister still claim he was ignorant of all these developments,” he asked.
Meanwhile, KPCC president K Sudhakaran said the central agencies have all of a sudden stopped the investigation into the gold smuggling. This is due to a secret understanding between the state and the central governments. “In the wake of the new revelations by the accused in the case, a reinvestigation has to be done now,” said Sudhakaran.
“The case was settled ahead of the assembly elections. This was done to prevent the case revolving around Pinarayi Vijayan and also help him to come back to power. The BJP provided all support for this,” he added.
Suresh’s revelation of how the chief minister’s office was involved in getting the baggage clearance from customs several times is shocking, he said. Besides Suresh, even her husband was given a job in departments that came directly under the chief minister, Sudhakaran alleged.
