Kerala-based model, Sahana was found dead at her residence near Kozhikode city in Kerala. According to reports, Sahana was found hanging at her house on Thursday night. After the model's mysterious death, her husband Sajjad was taken into custody and is presently being questioned.
As per news reports, Sahana was found hanging under mysterious circumstances from the window railing at her residence in Parambil Bazar, located 14 km way from Kozhikode.
"Sahana contacted us on Thursday evening. It was her 20th birthday. She told me that she will come to her house to celebrate her birthday. She was very happy. I don't think she committed suicide," Sahana's mother, Uveyma, was quoted as saying by Mathrubhumi.
As per reports, it was Sahana's mother Uveyma, who first alleged that Sahana was murdered by her husband. She is reported to have claimed that Sajjad had gone to the extent of giving a death threat to Sahana, if she refused to hand over the cheque she had received for an advertisement she had recently shot for.
Sahana had married Sajjad just a year-and-half ago and the latter was working in Qatar when the couple tied the knot.
The mother even told police that Sahana started modelling post her wedding and became a sensation in no time. In fact, she was also acting in a Tamil film.
The mother also said that Sahana was the breadwinner as Sajjad refused to return to Qatar after Sahana's modelling career kicked off.
Uveyma said that Shahana had started her modelling career after marriage and she also used to act in Tamil film. Uveyma claimed that Sajjad had refused to return to Qatar after Sahana started to earn a lot of money.
“He also spent much of the money she earned," her mother said.
"We have received information that they had a fight over some cheque which she received for modelling. His version is that she hanged herself on the window. We are investigating whether her act was sufficient to cause death," ACP Sudharshan told the media.
