KOCHI: Chief secretary V P Joy said at the review meeting held on Friday that Covid prevention measures of local bodies, which has not fall into the D category so far, can be used as case in point in rest of the local self-governing departments (LSGDs) to prevent the spread of the infection.
The meeting also decided to strengthen Covid protocols, restrictions and other activities. It has also been decided to assign duty magistrates to ensure Covid protocols are followed strictly in places where more relaxations have been allowed.
Police have been directed to ensure that protocols are followed in public functions. It has also asked to conduct tests among asymptomatic people and those who have not come into contact with positive cases.
The chief secretary also directed people to avoid serving food during meetings. District collector Jafar Malik said Covid preventive measures would be strengthened in wards where TPR is high.
Meanwhile, Ernakulam on Friday reported 1,832 cases, including 1,826 contact ones. Test positivity rate touched 10.21% on Friday. West Kochi alone reported more than 58 cases. Highest cases of the day were reported from Kizhakkambalam (55) followed by Pallipuram (53) and Keezhmad (48). As many as two guest workers and four healthcare workers were also tested positive.
Less than five cases were reported from 29 places in the district.
Also, 1,093 were recovered from the virus on Friday. The number of patients undergoing treatment at hospitals and at houses touched 17,500 on Friday. Currently, 40,712 people are under quarantine in Ernakulam.
