Kerala logs 702 new Covid cases, test positivity rate at 2.88%

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state reported 702 Covid-positive cases of the 24,313 samples tested in the last 24 hours on Tuesday. The test positivity rate is 2.88%.

With 13 more deaths in the past few days being recorded as Covid deaths and 39 deaths added from the appeals received, the total toll is 67,415.

Total active cases are 5,353, of which 10.4% people are admitted either in hospitals or in other treatment centres. Also, 730 patients have recovered from the infection.

Of the new cases, 663 persons got infected through local contacts and the source of 31 cases is not known. Among those who came from outside the state, no one has tested positive. Also, eight healthcare workers tested Covid positive.

Ernakulam with 146 reported the highest number of cases, followed by Thiruvananthapuram (87), Kottayam (76), Idukki (64), Kozhikode (62), Kollam (58), Pathanamthitta (50), Thrissur (38), Malappuram (27), Kannur (26), Alappuzha (24), Wayanad (23), Palakkad (15) and Kasaragod (6).

The number of patients who tested negative are Thiruvananthapuram (138), Kollam (38), Pathanamthitta (47), Alappuzha (6), Kottayam (75), Idukki (67), Ernakulam (103), Thrissur (39), Palakkad (20), Malappuram (21), Kozhikode (99), Wayanad (31), Kannur (44) and Kasaragod (2).

There are 17,541 persons presently under observation in various districts.
