IDUKKI: The district administration issued an orange alert in the wake of the Idukki reservoir water crossing the 2,398.42ft on Friday.
With increased spell of rainfall in catchment areas on Thursday night, the water level reached the orange alert level on Friday. The water level in the Idukki reservoir on Thursday reached the blue alert from the orange alert level, as per the new rule curve fixed by the Central Water Commission.
Idukki district collector Sheeba George said that if needed on Saturday after 4pm or Sunday morning, the Cheruthoni dam shutters will be opened and 100 cusecs of water will be release. As per the new rule curve, the red alert level is 2,399.03ft and the upper rule curve at 2,400.03ft.
Meanwhile, the water level at the Mullaperiyar dam increased to 139.25ft on Friday. Tamil Nadu reduced the drawing water to 467 cusecs. The average inflow at 10pm was 1,837 cusecs.
