IDUKKI: Idukki and Cheruthoni dams have opened for the public for the Christmas and New Year season. The dams will be opened for the public till February 28, 2022, said water resource minister Roshy Augustine.
“On Friday, 606 adults and 74 kids visited the dam. The visiting time is fixed 10am to 5pm. Tourists are allowed a ride on five buggy cars and one tempo traveller to the Cheruthoni dam and Idukki arch dam in a single stretch, and the charges for that is Rs
600. Within 45 minutes, visitors can watch both dams with the vehicle facility. The Idukki Wildlife Sanctuary has also arranged boating facilities from Vellappara,” said Sreeni Peethambran, unit manager, Hydel tourism, Idukki.
Meanwhile, the tourist inflow to the Munnar hill station, including tourism destinations in the district, has steadily increased for the Christmas and New Year. Tourism stakeholders said that the flow of domestic tourists and visitors are mainly from Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.
