PALAKKAD: The integrated tribal development project (ITDP) has started a special helpdesk to take measures to prevent tribal infant deaths in Attapadi's tribal heartland.
ITDP project officer V K Sureshkumar has said that the helpdesk would monitor pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers and take care of their health needs.
The 142 scheduled tribes' promoters will supervise pregnant women. Three squads of supervisory cadre officials will monitor them. They will ensure that pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers are given nutritious food under the Janani Janmaraksha scheme of the central government.
The ST promoters and social workers will ensure that they consume nutritious food supplied to them under the scheme. The list of high-risk pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers will be collected and registered in the Google spreadsheet to monitor it at the district level. Three ambulance services would function round-the-clock. Doctors and tribal health nurses were put on duty and medical examination camps would be organized, said ITDP project officer.
