Kerala govt spends Rs 18 crore for fighting cases

Thiruvananthapuram: The state government on Thursday informed the House that it has spent Rs 18 crore for fighting different cases in various courts. Informing this, industries minister P Rajeeve said Rs 18,97,89,823 was spent from the state’s exchequer.

The amount has been given towards the fees for advocates in appearing for the government. The minister was replying to a query from MLA K K Rema.

Power minister K Krishnankutty said in the House that the state government would oppose any move to privatize the power sector. The move by the Centre was to help private companies such that they could sell their power anywhere in the country. This would scuttle the subsidy scheme being provided to the poor in the state, he said.

Finance minister K N Balagopal said in the Assembly that the state has sought the Centre to declare moratorium for all loans till December 31 due to the pandemic situation. The state has also urged the Centre to do away with the interests and penal interests during the moratorium period.
