Kerala governor practising blackmail politics, says CPI leader Kanam Rajendran

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPI state secretary Kanam Rajendran accused governor Arif Mohammed Khan of practising blackmail politics. Governor has no right to demand changes in the policy address, he said.

"He wants to meet the media everyday, in the morning and evening. He was an active politician. The current controversies are because of his political antecedence," said Rajendran .

Kanam said that the government should not have surrendered to the demands of the governor. By succumbing to his demands, the government suffered two losses. "Firstly, the chance to expose him politically was lost. Secondly, it had to remove an official from an important position. It was not with the knowledge of the political leadership that CM went to meet the governor when he refused to sign the policy document," said Rajendran.

The LDF graph would have gone up if the government had to postpone the assembly session on account of the governor's refusal to deliver the policy address. Rajendran repeated his party's stand that the post of governor is an unnecessary one. He asked what was happening in Raj Bhavan where the governor has 157 staff. "He should at least understand that governorship is a constitutional position. He can't speak anything he likes. His role as the governor is well defined. His reactions beyond his assigned roles need not to be taken seriously," Kanam said.

Responding to Kanam's remarks, the governor said that he should not be used as a tool to settle scores over the issues in LDF. He said that if he had tried to blackmail the government, why did the government succumb to it. He also asked if Kanam was still a part of the ruling front.
