Kerala government to decide on offline classes today

T'PURAM: On Friday, the government will decide whether more restrictions are necessary for educational institutions in view of the surge in the number of Covid cases in state. Minister for general education V Sivankutty said on Thursday that a final decision on more restrictions, if any, would be taken after the Covid review meeting on Friday.

Sivankutty, who called on chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan, said a decision in this regard will be taken only after consultation with experts at the Covid review meeting. Discussions on whether offline classes in schools should continue or not in the current pattern have become a point of debate after Covid clusters were formed in educational institutions in several districts over the last few days.

Sources said the general education department is not in favour of suspending classes for students of Classes X to XII at this stage. If that is the case, classes for students till ninth standard might go completely online once again. At present, classes in government schools are organized in two batches and they have classes three days a week.
