THRISSUR: In a shocking incident, a Plus Two student was gang-raped by her father's friends near Vadakkekad in the district. The police have arrested one person in connection with the case while search is on for tracing the other two. The father was allegedly a ganja peddler.
The girl had reportedly informed the mother about the rape earlier, but she did not file a police complaint. The girl later informed her teacher who in turn alerted the police. The teacher noticed behavioural changes in the child, and it was during the counselling with the help of Childline experts that she disclosed the details. The girl was later subjected to a medical examination.
According to police, the incident had first taken place in May at the girl's house. The accused had come to the house when both the parents were away. Subsequently, they had also abused the girl at a tuition centre. They had assaulted her again recently, Guruvayur ACP Suresh KG said.
The girl is currently under the custody of the Child Welfare Committee. Police said they would try to elicit more information after the child received counselling. Police have launched a detailed investigation to arrest the remaining two accused. They are also probing whether more people are involved.
The arrested accused has been remanded to judicial custody. A petition is likely to be moved soon to take him into police custody.
