IDUKKI: Upputhara police in Idukki have arrested and charged cases under Pocso against four youths for raping and impregnating a 17-year-old girl. They were arrested on Wednesday and Thursday.
The arrested were Upputhara residents Kaduvinal Akhil Radhakrishnan, 23, Vrindavan Bhavan Ananthu James, 20, Kanchiyar resident Cheenkallel Vishnu Biju, 21, and Karuntharuvi resident Kappikad Layams Kiran Vanarajan, 27.
According to police, the accused contacted the survivor through social media and mobile phone. The survivor was taken to different places and sexually exploited from October last year to April this year. She found out she was pregnant and informed the youths, but none of them wanted to marry her. She informed her family, and they filed a complaint.
"The youths were unaware that the other was in a relationship with the survivor. After counselling, she will be shifted to the child protection unit rescue centre. She is seven months pregnant, and we need a DNA test to confirm who the father is," Upputhara SHO Babu E told TOI.
In another incident, two days ago, Kattappana police arrested four youths, including brothers, for sexually abusing an mentally disabled woman. The arrested were Mattukatta residents Amablathinkal Abin 23, Albin 21, Kunnappally Mattam Renimon, 22 and Chenkara resident Thuruthil Roshan.
According to police, the accused contacted the woman through social media and then sexually abused her at home. The issue came to light following a family dispute, and relatives filed a complaint.
