IDUKKI: The first phase of the vaccination drive is completed at the tribal panchayat of Edamalakkudy. According to officials, in the first phase, over 120 people have been vaccinated at Edamalakkudy. The second phase will take place on August 25 and 26 at Society kudy and Edalipparakkudy.
“Two medical teams will participate in the vaccination drive and vaccinate maximum people in the tribal panchayat. As per estimates, nearly 1,500 people above 18 years are eligible to get the vaccine,” said an official. “Earlier, tribes people showed reluctance to receive the vaccine.
The people in the village need to visit Munnar for various needs. But a message was spread among communities that without vaccine, there is no entry in shops and banks. People then showed willingness to take the vaccine,” the official added.
Presently over 50% of tribespeople have received the first dose of vaccine. “Presently, 21,349 have received the first dose and 2,906 received the second dose in the district.,” said the Adimali TDO said.
