Kerala: Fertilizer price rise, shortage hit paddy cultivation in Palakkad

PALAKKAD: The second crop paddy cultivation started in the district is in crisis due to the skyrocketing price and shortage of fertilizers like potash and FACTAMFOS, without which it is not possible to cultivate paddy.

In the last six months, FACTOMFOS price was increased by Rs 300. Now it costs Rs 1,390 per 50kg bag.

Potash’s price was hiked to Rs 1,700 per 50kg bag from Rs 1,040, said Desheeya Karshaka Samajam general secretary Muthalamthode Mani, adding that manufacturing companies bringing down production and low quantity import had resulted in the price rise.
