Kerala: Edayakkunnam man held for attacking corporation councillor

KOCHI: Cheranelloor police on Friday arrested a 30-year-old man for allegedly attacking a corporation councillor who questioned dumping of waste in public space.

The arrested has been identified as Akshay (30) of Edayakkunnam. The accused was presented before the magistrate online and he was allowed interim bail, police said.

He was arrested based on a complaint filed by Kunnumpuram councillor Jagathambika. Sources said that the councillor and her husband were on their way home when the confrontation and subsequent attack happened.

As per the complainant, the woman was hit. However, prima facie, she didn’t sustain any serious injuries, police said.

Meanwhile, Ernakulam Town south police have registered a similar case based on a complaint filed by Kadavanthra councillor Suja Lonappan that her husband Lonappan was attacked for questioning waste dumping in public spaces. Police said that the incident happened on Thursday night. Sources said that the suspects tried to hit the bike driven by Lonappan using a car.
