Kerala: DRI seizes 6.3kg gold from six passengers at Calicut airport

KOZHIKODE: In a major haul, directorate of revenue intelligence (DRI) officials attached to the Kozhikode regional unit have seized 6.3kg of gold worth Rs 3.2 crore from six passengers who arrived at Calicut International Airport.

All six passengers, who tried to sneak in the contraband, had travelled on Indigo flight 6E 1843 from Jeddah on Thursday.

DRI officials said they were monitoring the flight for the past few weeks and mounted the operation once they were sure that the carriers had boarded the plane from Jeddah. The passengers who have been taken into custody were identified as Muhammed Shihab Pullambalavan, Safeer Chelakoden, Rashid Poolackal, Gafoor Kandy, Firos Paikkarathodi and Asker Ali Kolaparamba.

Further investigation is underway to find out for whom the carriers had brought the gold.
