Kerala: College teacher drowns in river during rescue bid in Malappuram

KOZHIKODE: A physical education teacher, who was the head of the department at Amal College, Nilambur, drowned while trying to rescue his relatives from drowning in the Chaliyar river at Nilambur in Malappuram on Sunday morning.

The deceased has been identified as K Mohammed Najeeb, 37, of Naseema Manzil, Palliyamoola, Kannur. The incident occurred when he went to take bath at the Myladi ghat along with his relatives Hussain and Ashique.

Ashique and Hussain got caught in the currents and Najeeb drowned while trying to rescue them. The duo was rescued by another person who was bathing nearby. Najeeb leaves behind wife K T Shamna and daughter Diya Fathima. His funeral was held on Sunday night.
