Kerala: Central team to visit eight districts with higher number of Covid cases

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The six-member central team headed by Dr S K Singh, director, National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), will be touring eight districts in the state where more Covid-19 cases are being reported.

The Union health ministry has deputed this multi-disciplinary team to the state to collaborate with the state health department in instituting effective public health measures for Covid-19 management in view of the significantly enhanced manner of daily Covid-19 cases being reported here. The team will be split into two for touring the eight districts. It has been decided to conduct the visits from Saturday. The first team will have Dr Sujeet Singh, Dr Jain S K, advisor, public health, NCDC; Dr Pranay Verma, deputy director, NCDC and Dr Ruchi Jain, public health specialist.

The first team will be visiting Kollam and Alappuzha (Staurday), Pathanamthitta and Kottayam (Sunday) and Thiruvananthapuram (Monday). This team will have discussion with the state health officials on Monday.

The second team of Dr P Ravindran, former DDG, DM Cell, ministry for health and family welfare and Dr K Reghu, additional director, Kozhikode branch, National Centre for Disease Control, Kerala, will be touring Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod.

The teams will specifically look at areas like testing, contact tracing, surveillance and containment operations. These teams will assess the situation, suggest remedial actions and report on the public health activities undertaken to the Centre and also to the state government. The team will work closely with the state health department to take stock of on ground situation and recommend necessary public health interventions to contain the large number of cases being reported in the state.

The state with an active caseload of 1.54 lakh is contributing 37.1% of the total active cases in the country, with a growth rate of 1.41% in the last seven days.
