Kerala: Call for audit must have arisen out of confusion, says senior member of the Travancore royal family

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The SC order seeking compulsory audit of institutions under Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple Trust must be the result of a prevailing confusion. Many believe that the temple Trust and the temple management committee are one and the same. It is not so. Such a confusion must have arisen out of the nomenclature of the trust, said a senior member of the Travancore royal family.

The trust has nothing to hide. We don’t oppose an audit. Only thing is that it would require more time to complete the task, the member said.

The royal family argued that the trust, set up by former king Sree Chithira Tirunal Balarama Varma, was named after Sree Padmanabha temple as it was his practice to name almost all institutions after Lord Padmanabha.

The temple trust owns several properties around Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple. This includes Krishnavilasom temple, Levee Hall, Vaikundam Kalyanamandapam and Ananthasayanam Kalyanamandapam. Panchajanyam kalyanamandapam on the west side of the temple is the only property directly managed by the temple.
