Kerala assembly session to commence on Friday

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The fourth session of the 15th legislative assembly will commence with the governor's policy address on Friday.

Explaining the schedule of the session, speaker MB Rajesh said here on Wednesday that the discussions on the policy address will be held on February 22, 23 and 24, while on 21, the assembly will adjourn for the day after referring to the demise of UDF member who represented Thrikkakkara, PT Thomas. The speaker said that the session will go on a break, from February 25 till March 10, and will resume with the budget for 2022-23 on March 11.

This will be followed by general discussion on the budget on March 14, 15 and 16 and on March 17, the assembly will consider the final supplementary demands for the financial year 2021-22. The vote on account for the first four months of the financial year 2022-23 will be considered on March 22, and finance utilisation bills concerning supplementary demands and vote on accounts will be considered on March 21 and 23, respectively. The speaker said that the business advisory committee, which will meet on February 21, will decide on how to utilise time that has been earmarked for government business on March 21 and 23.

Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav:

The speaker said that as per the instructions from the Lok Sabha secretariat regarding the ongoing celebrations of the 75th year of independence, the legislative assembly secretariat will conduct a two-day national conference for women legislative assembly members from all states. This conference will be held in April. In addition, a detailed audio-visual show will be organised at the assembly museum depicting various chapters from the country's freedom struggle. In addition, as part of the one-year-long centenary celebrations of the legislative assembly library, an international book festival will also be held, Rajesh said.The speaker said that despite adversities caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, the state legislative assembly could meet for 61 days in 2021, which is the highest in any state in the country in that period. He said that even the Parliament met for only less than 60 days in this period.
