KOCHI: The prosecution has sought three more months to complete the further investigation in the actress assault case.
The prosecution raised the demand during the hearing on actor Dileep’s plea to quash the new case registered on the basis of film director Balachandra Kumar’s statement. In the case registered by crime branch, it is alleged that Dileep and others conspired to kill the investigating officers in the assault case.
Along with seeking more time, prosecution also submitted a sealed cover to Justice Kauser Edappagath explaining its plan of action.
Dileep’s counsel has contended that prosecution is trying to protract the trial in the assault case through the further investigation. The crime branch team is trying to create false evidence make it appear that the visuals of the assault were retrieved from Dileep. Kumar made the statement with the knowledge of the investigating officers, the counsel argued.
At this stage, the court asked what advantage the prosecution gets in delaying the trial. If that was their intention, why should they wait until the last minute, the court asked. If the film director’s statement was with the knowledge of the investigating officers, couldn’t they have come up with a better story, the court queried. Dileep’s counsel replied that they need brains to do that.
Opposing the submissions made by Dileep’s counsel, director general of prosecution submitted that if the contents of the phones that have been digitally locked are opened, the owners will come to known about it. The investigating officer has no reason for having enmity towards the accused, prosecution told the court. After completing hearing, the court has reserved the case for pronouncing orders.
