IDUKKI: The chargesheet in the Cheenikuzhi murder case said that before committing the brutal murder, the accused, Hameed, had ensured that the title deed of his land and cash were kept in a safe place before the incident. Idukki narcotic cell DSP A G Lal submitted the chargesheet before the Muttom sessions court in Idukki.
Hameed had set the house on fire, burning his son, daughter-in-law and two granddaughters alive at Cheenikuzhi near Thodupuzha in Idukki on March 19. Hameed is now lodged in Muttom jail.
DSP Lal told TOI it was a planned murder, and the accused had completed the arrangements for the murder two days before the incident. “To ensure the safety of the title deed of his land and Rs 1,20,000 cash, Hameed moved them to his brother’s house without their knowledge. Then the accused stored over 12 bottles of petrol to commit the crime,” he said.
Police submitted the chargesheet of the murder case 85 days after the crime. “Before committing the murder, the accused ensured that the victims could not save themselves nor could anyone save them. He closed the only lock-in door of the room where the family was sleeping to ensure the murder. He used six petrol bottles, and police recovered another six bottles which were hidden in a secret place,” said a police officer.
Hameed set the house on fire, killing his son Faizal alias Shibu (49), daughter-in-law Sheeba (39), and granddaughters Mehrin (16) and Asna (13).
