Kerala: 3,277 more turn Covid positive from 45,412 samples

T’PURAM: The state witnessed 3,277 positive cases of the 45,412 samples tested in the last 24 hours. Among the new cases detected, 2,870 people were eligible for vaccination, 1,582 have taken both vaccine doses and 980 have not taken even a single dose.

With 30 more deaths in the past few days being recorded as Covid deaths and 138 deaths added from the appeals received, the total Covid deaths in the state have now reached 41,768.

The total active cases at present are 40,730, of which 8% of the people are admitted either in hospitals or in other treatment centres. At the same time, 5,833 patients have recovered from the disease.

Among the new cases, 3,056 cases have been infected through local transmission. The contact source of infection was not traceable for 187. There are 25 healthcare professionals among those infected and 9 people have arrived from outside the state.

Ernakulam reported the highest number of cases with 568, followed by Kozhikode (503), Thiruvananthapuram (482), Kottayam (286), Kannur (267), Thrissur (262), Kollam (200), Idukki (142), Malappuram (135), Alappuzha (123), Palakkad (99), Pathanamthitta (95), Wayanad (62) and Kasaragod (53).

There are a total of 1,66,787 persons presently under observation in various districts, of which 1,62,029 are at their homes or institutional quarantine centres, and 4,758 are in isolation at hospitals.

As per the weekly infection population ratio, 21 wards in 19 local bodies are having a WIPR of more than 10%.
