Kerala: 19,682 turn Covid positive of 1.2 lakh samples; test positivity rate at 16.14%

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state witnessed 19,682 positive cases of the 1,21,945 samples tested in the last 24 hours. The test positivity rate is 16.14%.

Meanwhile, 152 Covid deaths were recorded, taking the death toll in the state to 24,191. At the same time, 20,510 patients have recovered from the disease.

Among the new cases, 18,784 cases have been infected through local transmission. The contact source of infection was not traceable for 737.

Thrissur reported the highest number of cases with 3,033, followed by Ernakulam (2,564), Kozhikode (1,735), Thiruvananthapuram (1,734), Kollam (1,593), Kottayam (1,545), Malappuram (1,401), Palakkad (1,378), Alappuzha (1,254), Kannur (924), Pathanamthitta (880), Idukki (734), Wayanad (631) and Kasaragod (276).

The total active cases at present are 1,60,046, of which 13% of the people are admitted either in hospitals or other treatment centres. There are a total of 4,75,103 persons presently under observation in various districts of the state, of which 4,52,282 are at their homes or institutional quarantine centres, and 22,821 are in isolation at hospitals.

As per the weekly infection population ratio (WIPR), 841 wards in 422 local bodies are having WIPR of more than 10%.
