Kerala: 17,983 new Covid-19 cases; test positivity rate at 16.27%

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state witnessed 17,983 positive cases of the 1,10,523 samples tested in the last 24 hours. The test positivity rate is 16.27%. The state also logged 127 Covid deaths, taking the toll to 24,319. At the same time,15,054 patients have recovered from the disease.

Among the new cases, 16,918 cases have been infected through local spread. The contact source of infection was not traceable for 877.

Thrissur reported the highest number of cases with 2,784, followed by Ernakulam (2,397), Thiruvananthapuram (1,802), Kollam (1,500), Kottayam (1,367), Kozhikode (1,362), Palakkad (1,312), Malappuram (1,285), Alappuzha (1,164), Idukki (848), Kannur (819), Pathanamthitta (759), Wayanad (338) and Kasaragod (246).

The total active cases at present are 1,62,846, of which 12.6% of people are admitted either in hospitals or other treatment centres. There are 4,69,954 persons presently under observation in various districts of the state, of which 4,47,442 are at their homes or institutional quarantine centres, and 22,512 are in isolation at hospitals.

As per the weekly infection population ratio, 841 wards in 422 local bodies are having a WIPR of more than 10%. In these wards, strict lockdown restrictions have been implemented.
