Kerala: 10,000 new patients as testing goes down, test positivity rate at 16.41%

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state reported 10,402 positive cases when 63,406 samples tested in the last 24 hours with a test positivity rate of 16.41%.

Meanwhile, 66 recent deaths were confirmed as caused by Covid, taking the related death toll in the state to 19,495. At the same time, 25,586 patients have recovered from the disease.

Among the new cases, 9,674 cases have been infected through local spread. The contact source of infection was not traceable for

572. There are 52 healthcare professionals among those infected and 104 people have arrived from outside the state.

Malappuram reported the highest number of cases — 1,577, followed by Kozhikode (1,376), Palakkad (1,133), Ernakulam (1,101), Thrissur (1,007), Kannur (778), Kollam (766), Alappuzha (644), Thiruvananthapuram (484), Kottayam (415), Pathanamthitta (338), Idukki (275), Wayanad (265) and Kasaragod (243).

So far 36,31,066 people have recovered from coronavirus infection in the state as 1,63,212 patients are still undergoing treatment for the same.

The people who got infected through local contacts are: Malappuram (1,482), Kozhikode (1,326), Palakkad (776), Ernakulam (1,075), Thrissur (998), Kannur (717), Kollam (763), Alappuzha (637), Thiruvananthapuram (441), Kottayam (370), Pathanamthitta (326), Idukki (272), Wayanad (256) and Kasaragod (235).

The infected healthcare workers are from Kannur (14), Palakkad (9), Wayanad and Kasaragod (5 each), Thiruvananthapuram and Pathanamthitta (4 each), Kollam and Thirssur (3 each), Kottayam and Kozhikode (2 each) and Ernakulam (1).

There are a total of 4,85,017 people presently under observation in various districts of the state, of which 4,58,431 are at their homes or institutional quarantine centres and 26,586 are in isolation at hospitals.

As per the weekly infection population ratio (WIPR), 414 wards in 74 local bodies are having WIPR of more than 8%. In these wards, strict lockdown restrictions have been implemented.
