'Kept it simple' - Bristol City player ratings after late loss to Bournemouth

Dan Bentley - 7

Solid save to deny Solanke down low at his near post and did well to deal with an awkward bouncing Vyner back pass at one point. Cool as a cucumber to dribble around a pressing Solanke in the first half and solid save from Cook's long-range effort. Little chance with the goal.

Zak Vyner - 8

Looked a little shaky early on but did enough to deny Solanke, King and Stanislas as they crept into his zone. In the right place at the right time several times for City to sweep up as the Cherries front three ran at the City defence. His best performance of the season yet?

Tomas Kalas - 8

His first-half header was cleared off the line as he magnificently met a Paterson corner. Unlucky to be pinged by referee Martin saw his coming-together with Josh King bizarrely. Brilliant tackle to deny Solanke in the box just on 69 minutes - a captain's challenge.

Taylor Moore - 7

Had several good duels with the Cherries rotating front three, and showed good pace to deal with one burst from King down the flank.

Jack Hunt - 6

Continued his good form with a couple of strong tackles though his passing wasn't always on point. Tracked Smith well in the second half to deny the Cherries crossing.

Jamie Paterson - 6

Almost played in Diedhiou early on with a chipped ball before his low shot was deflected just wide and Kalas headed his corner at goal, with King clearing. Produced a nice clipped cross for Diedhiou on 65 minutes and led many of City's best counter-attacks.

Tyreeq Bakinson - 7

Wasted an early chance to release Semenyo on 20 minutes as his pass was easily intercepted, before atoning with a lovely shot from the edge of the box just  two minutes later that looked like it was heading in. Caught in possession a little easily at times and Solanke almost profited from one piece of loose play. Made the most tackles and interceptions made for City however, to demonstrate his impact.

Callum O'Dowda - 6

Kept it simple with his use of the ball and showed plenty of energy in the middle. Looks to be the right replacement for Weimann, as his drive through the middle as shown here, can replace the Austrian's industrious pressing.

Antoine Semenyo of Bristol City is challenged by Steve Cook of Bournemouth (Rogan/JMP)

Tommy Rowe - 6

Got forward well and one burst into the box in the first half could have raised the question to the referee whether illegally stopped. Stopped Stacey crossing diligently in the second half.

Antoine Semenyo - 6

Given a second start in a row and almost scored in the first minutes as he hit the side netting after a Bournemouth error. And that was his best chance, though again he worked hard for his team out of possession like on Saturday. Made the second most tackles for City on the night (3; equal with O'Dowda, but behind Vyner's six.)

Famara Diedhiou - 6

Recalled to the side for the first league game since the first match of the season. And looked up for this early on, with aggressive play to help City move up the pitch. So close to netting in the last real action of the first half and maybe should have scored.

Substitutions

Chris Brunt (for Semenyo, 78') - n/a

Replaced Semenyo late in the game as City changed formation.

Nahki Wells (for Hunt, '82) - n/a

Came on for the final minutes as City looked to get back in the game.

Chris Martin (for Diedhiou, '82) - n/a

Got the last few minutes as the Robins pushed to equalise.
