Kepa makes an impression and Olivier Giroud's shorts - Behind the scenes of Chelsea training

Chelsea are back in Champions League action  on Tuesday night when they host Bayern Munich at Stamford Bridge.

It’s the first leg of the last 16, and the Blues will be hoping for a decent result to take to Germany next month.

The Blues haven’t had a great amount of time to prepare, with Bayern having played on Friday in the Bundesliga and Chelsea’s Premier League win over Spurs taking place on Saturday.

But ahead of the game, the Blues players were in high spirits as they trotted out for their final training session.

Chelsea 2-1 Tottenham: Frank Lampard post-match press conference

The rain and wind was at its worst at Cobham for the open training session, with journalists, photographers and cameramen allowed to watch for 15 minutes.

And here are some of the behind the scenes things you might have missed.

Kepa first out

He might be the world’s most expensive goalkeeper, but Kepa Arrizabalaga has lost his place in the Chelsea starting XI.

The Spaniard has had to sit on the bench since the Leicester City match before the winter break, while Willy Caballero has looked solid in goal.

Kepa is, of course, trying to get his spot back, with his place in Spain’s Euro 2020 squad also in massive jeopardy.

That means he is trying to make the best impression that he can, and one of the ways he can do that is be the best in training.

Well, he was certainly the first out this morning to take to the session and is keen to make the effect.

Olivier Giroud in shorts

The weather was absolutely filthy in Surrey, with wind and rain sweeping across the training pitches at Cobham.

The majority of the players were wrapped up as warm as possible, with thick jumpers, hats and snoods in full view.

The journalists, photographers and cameramen tried their best to huddle up warm with umbrellas up and covers at the ready.

However, for Olivier Giroud, there was no need for all of that, and the striker strode out on to the pitches in just a jumper and shorts.

The Frenchman is in contention to start tomorrow night against the Germans, and he will be up for the battle.

A new Champions League ball

For many fans, the Champions League football is an iconic one, with the stars all over the ball.

And at Stamford Bridge tomorrow, there will be a new football for fans to see.

Adidas has released the The ‘Istanbul 20', the new official Champions League ball, and the players were using it for ahead of the match.

Adidas says: “The ball features Adidas’ latest technology to ensure that the top players in Europe can perform at their very best during the competition.

“An outer texture coating – consistent across all Adidas UEFA Champions League official match balls – offers secure grip and complete control, while the thermally bonded star panels provide a seamless surface for an improved first touch.”
