Kepa Arrizabalaga reveals what he told Maurizio Sarri following Carabao Cup final debacle

Kepa Arrizabalaga has recalled the infamous events from the Carabao Cup final earlier this year.

Despite going down with an injury, the stopper refused Maurizio Sarri's instructions to come off the field, instead choosing to undermine his instructions in front of 90,000 people at Wembley.

Speaking of the game, Kepa said: "I’m not proud of what happened. I lived in a storm that week.

"It was a situation that I hadn’t lived and that came to me in a flash. Everything went very fast, with many keystrokes.

"I apologised, he explained to me what he had felt.

"Internally, it was finished the next day.

"It was an unpleasant situation, but we left in a good way and from there we made a great end of the season.

"From now I will ask the manager [questions] just in the half-time of the extra-time!"

At the time, legendary Chelsea captain John Terry accused Kepa of the ultimate disrespect by not coming off the field.

"I think once the number goes up, you have to come off. You have to show that respect. I get that he doesn’t want to and he’s frustrated, but the last thing you want is this,” Terry told Sky Sports.

Fellow pundit Jamie Redknapp explained: "I thought I’d seen it all in football but that was incredible. I feel sorry for the manager and it’s such a difficult situation for him.

"Willy Caballero is brilliant at penalties as well."
