Keogh's Crisps firm director charged over cannabis plants worth nearly €20,000


A retired farmer from the family behind one of Ireland's biggest crisp companies has been charged over cultivating cannabis plants worth nearly €20,000.

Tony Keogh, a director at Keogh's Crisps, was arrested after Gardai seized around €19,500 worth of suspected drugs during the search of an area in north Dublin on Thursday.

The 64-year-old is the uncle to Keogh Crisps Limited founder Tom Keogh.

Mr Keogh appeared at Dublin District Court on Friday where he was charged.

A Garda spokesman said: "Gardaí in Balbriggan, assisted by the Divisional Crime Task Force, seized approximately €19,500 worth of drugs and arrested one man, aged in his 60s, during the course of a search operation on Thursday, 9th July 2020.

"The search was conducted under warrant at a location in North Dublin.

"During the course of the search cannabis plants (pending analysis) with an estimated street value of €19,500 was seized.

"The male was later charged and appeared before the CCJ yesterday afternoon."
