Kenya: Proposed coal project in World Heritage Site angers locals

A plan to build a coal power plant on a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Kenya has sparked fears about the impact on the environment and wildlife.

A consortium of multinational companies wants to build the plant on the Lamu archipelago where the heritage Lamu Old Town is located.

 

But as Al Jazeera's Nicolas Haque, reporting from Lamu in Kenya, reports that some locals welcome the project.
