Kentucky League of Women Voters hosting virtual voter rights presentations

The fall election season is approaching, and Kentucky voters will have to navigate changes to the commonwealth’s voting laws. To help inform voters, the League of Women Voters is holding webinars on voters’ rights as the election draws closer.

Jennifer Jackson is the chair of voter services for the League of Women Voters in Kentucky and co-president of the organization’s Lexington chapter. She said some of the changes could make things more difficult for voters.

“A lot of people were using mail in voting and so that was, I think, a welcome change for a lot of people. Now I think people need to recognize that is not an option for everybody, that you have to have an excuse to be able to do that.”

She says there are other options available to make it easier to vote.

“The most exciting thing is that we have three days of early voting. So that is the Thursday, Friday and Saturday prior to election day. So that is November third, fourth and fifth.”

Kentuckians will also be able to do what is called “in-person-absentee voting” where they can vote early, in person if they know they will not be in the area on election day.

Jackson says the first webinar on Kentucky voter rights will be held Thursday at 7PM and people can register on the League of Women Voters’s website.
