A $100,000 dollar grant is going to the Kentucky Children’s Hospital to help support its clinics for child cancer and blood disorders.
The money comes from Hyundai Hope On Wheels, which funds pediatric cancer research nationwide.
For Kentucky Children’s Hospital, that includes money for backpacks with blankets, water bottles and other comfort items for kids. For adolescents, it also includes a college and career fair. It will also help enhance cancer research programs done at the hospital.
“When a young person who's somewhere between the ages of 15 and 29 gets diagnosed, they're launching their lives, they're thinking about college and thinking about their careers," John D’Orazio, the chief of pediatric hematology and oncology, said. “And cancer puts a big dent into that.”
Overall, the money would let the children’s hospital make the clinic experience better for its young patients.
“We pride ourselves in providing comprehensive care to children with cancer and blood diseases,” D’Orazio said. “And philanthropic organizations like Hyundai Hope on Wheels allow us to do such a better job with everything.”
Money from the grant program was previously used in 2019 to renovate clinic rooms used by adolescents. Hyundai has granted $25 million dollars to clinics this year.
