The Met tonight launched a manhunt after a police officer was hit by a car in north-west London.

The officer is in hospital with leg and neck injuries after being hit by an Alfa Romeo she had tried to stop in Kenton just after 4pm.

The force said it was still trying to locate the Alfa Romeo and its driver.

The officer was trying to stop the car being driven by a man suspected of driving while being disqualified.

It stopped in Windermere Avenue but then reversed along the pavement and smashed into her police vehicle.

The female officer, who had been getting out of the car, suffered leg and neck injuries in the collision.

The driver then fled from the scene in the Alfa Romeo.

The police officer was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to hospital. Her condition is not life-threatening.

Any witnesses or anyone with any information is asked to call police on 101, quoting CAD 5316 of November 6.
